If there are two things that my boyfriend loves more than anything, its pizza and beer – and pizza and beer is exactly what Beerd Bristol does best!

Sat on St Michael’s Hill, Cotham just opposite Highbury Vaults, Beerd is the perfect hangout for casual diners looking for a chilled night out.

The dining room is modern, natural woods, an almost industrial feel with bursts of colour to liven things up. Simple, uncomplicated, cool.

The menus are simple:

Menu 1. The beer menu. Beerd being owned by Bath Ales, there are a selection of Bath ales on there but also more exotic beers – coconut beer anyone? Mango lager? Ales and lagers are available by the pint, the half pint or event a third of a pint so you can while the night away sampling the many beers available.

Menu 2. Food & non beer drinks. Non beer drinks are obviously limited but perfectly adequate, wine, cider, soft drinks. There’s a selection of sides and nibbles to choose from, we opted for home made pork scratchings to get us started which were amazing. They were giant sized for starters, wonderfully crispy, salty and full of flavour. Okay they were probably over a thousand calories per scratching but nonetheless – they were incredible.

The main meals available are all pizza. Toppings are traditional Italian, simple yet appetising. I opted for just a plain margarita, cheese tomato and basil. My co diners went for artichoke, pepperoni and various others.

When they came out I felt we’d got the last laugh – the margarita pizzas were nearly a third bigger than the others, although everything was well sized. The base was superb extremely thin, very crisp and cooked pretty much to perfection. The toppings were rich and tasty, sparsely sprinkled over the tops – exactly how real Italian pizza should be.

I think the empty plates spoke for themselves, the pizzas were soon devoured and enjoyed by all.

The atmosphere in Beerd was very chilled, very relaxed. Great for a casual Saturday night. We’ve spoken to friends who have been in mid week and found it to be chaotic and over crowded however I cant say we found that at all.

Verdict: Its simple and uncomplicated but it works. A winner for us.

  • That pizza looks amazing! We had the giant pork scratchings when we went before (and they even had little bits of meat on the underside, result!) but definitely need to go back and try the pizzas!
