Feb 2013: Sadly, The Richmond now only serve food on Sundays and their weekday pub meals have stopped. The roasts are still good though and it’s still a lovely pub serving one of the best Malbec’s in Bristol!
We first tried The Richmond for sunday roast earlier this year. A meal which immediately placed them in our Best Sunday Dinner’s post. However until a few weeks ago we were yet to try the pub grub.
A few Fridays ago we stopped by one evening for dinner. The menu had everything on there you would expect to find – all the pub classics. I opted for homemade pie of the day and chips. Becci went for the steak.
We sat back soaking up the atmosphere of this traditional pub and enjoying a glass of the house wine, before long our food arrived.
Becci’s steak was well presented and well cooked. The meat was good quality and she confirmed it was thoroughly enjoyable.
I have to say the pie was incredible, both in quantity and quality. The shortcrust pastry top was crisp and sturdy. Best of all it was clearly homemade (I have serious beef with mass produced puff pastry ‘pie lids’ which you get so often – eugh!)
The pie filling was lamb and mint. Again it tasted great. Rich, tasty, comforting. Just what you’re looking for when you go for a hearty pub dinner. The chips were good too, nice and crispy.
Sadly I couldn’t finish all mine – I gave it a good go but it was just too big!!
An excellent pub overall, nice atmosphere, good selection of wines and ales, nice menu, great food and friendly bar staff. Best of all they serve food til 10pm and serve sunday roasts til late too. One to check out if you haven’t already.
