With a sign outside boasting of the “best breakfast in Bristol” The Bristolian Cafe on Picton Street was somewhere I simply had to try.
A bright and cosy little cafe, with a blackboard of breakfast specials and a counter full of delicious salad items and cakes.
I opted for The Bristolian Breakfast (what else) at just £7.50. Food arrived quickly and the portions were generous and my plate contained the full works.
Stand out items for me were the free range black pudding – very flavoursome, tasty and crispy, the baked tomatoes and sesame infused spinach – a rather different touch for a breakfast but really tasty.
All this is perfect when washed down with a glass of their freshly squeezed blood orange juice. Wonderfully refreshing and a great alternative to regular orange juice.
I’ve only had lunch there once but my whitebait was delicious, meaty (not just battered bones) and lots of flavour. My fellow diners went for burgers and reported back that these tasted great Particularly popular were the patatas bravas which they were served with and the homemade chilli dip.
The Bristolian also have a range of other items on offer from salads to burgers, and tapas available at lunchtimes and in the evenings. Not forgetting their Tuesday Pizza special and a good selection of wines and cocktails.
The Bristolian has quickly become one of my favourite go-to places. Beautifully decorated inside and out. This cafe-bistro is casual enough for daytime and sophisticated enough for evening to give diners a wonderfully relaxed and delicious experience – at any time of day.
