I always find macaroons somewhat – underwhelming. Beautiful colours masking a wafery texture and all too often not enough flavour The whole experience leaves me feeling a bit… meh. I just don’t know what all the fuss is about.
But perhaps this is just because I hadn’t tried really good macaroons – such as those from Patisserie Leila on Stokes Croft. Vibrant colours catch your eye from the window, the brightest of blues, greens and reds.
The thing that makes Leila’s macaroons stand out for me though – are the flavours. Tangy raspberry, citrussy lime, sweet blueberry and vanilla, almond and crisp apple.
I’m keeping this review short and sweet. But if, like me, you feel macaroons are bit “meh” I urge you to treat yourself to a sample from Patisserie Leila – you won’t be disappointed.
