An Indian banquet – the perfect Bollywood birthday bash!

Gemma Written by Gemma

The perfect celebration when everyone is a bit strapped for cash, a themed Bring n Share dinner party. My bollywood themed birthday had friends bringing in a huge selection of Indian themed dishes and treats.

What I think I enjoyed the mot was just how “into it” everyone was – even those who don’t share our passion for cooking, what was even better was the fact that the pressure was off me as the hostess, I spent the day perfecting a small selection of dishes, rather than panicking over trying to do all of the cooking myself.

Some music (courtesy of spotify), a couple of pieces of coloured material, some incense and some bindis were just enough to get everyone into a bollywood mood.

Unfortunately, I don’t have all of the recipes which people brought round but to give you a rough idea of our selection:

Chicken Korma – Recipe here
Homemade Mango Chutney – Recipe here
King Prawn Masala
Keralese Salad
Lamb Madras
Homemade Samosas
Dahl – Recipe here
Dragon Chicken – Recipe here
Bombay Potatoes
Onion Bhajis / Pakoras – Recipe here
Bombay Sapphire & Cranberry Fizz (Bombay Sapphire gin, cranberry juice, tonic water and lots of limes)
Fiery Ginger Cocktail – King’s Ginger Whiskey (and a dash of Jack Daniels) grated root ginger, chilli flakes, soda water

A cheap and fun way to hold a dinner party with a difference!
